For Cleveland, Ohio, read Hackney, Maryhill….

….Birmingham Ladywood, Peckham, Shoreditch, Manchester Central, Liverpool Riverside….

How do we save our most depressed inner city regions?

  • By encouraging inward private sector investment and making it easier for companies to function, giving schools and teachers the flexibility to make their own decisions, and improving services and civic pride by introducing commercial rigour into moribund, union-dominated municipal assets?
  • Or by burdening these areas with ever greater levels of regulation, taxation, red tape and bureaucracy, while allowing doctrine, political orthodoxy and self interest to trump common sense and results-driven public services?

Watch this great series of shorts from Drew Carey’s excellent Reason TV and decide for yourself….

No brainer? You would have thought so, wouldn’t you?

Comment of the week – Someone doesn’t like Andy Burnham

3 Mar

From Guido’s place, where else?

Capita Learning & Development are holding a day long session on interview skills for all those Labour MPs’ staff who will soon be jobless.  Despite not being held until 22 March Guido is told it is already booked up.

Course Objectives

  • Identify your strengths and development areas before you enter the interview.
  • Know how to write a CV and covering letter that has the X factor.
  • Be able to sell and present yourself with ease and impact.
  • Have a business visual makeover at the end of the course.

And the comment? Rage doesn’t begin to describe it….

Snotty: I can hit a bullseye at 50 paces with a nokia
Balls: I can be very dismissive at times (and I can’t spell – Ed.)
Straw: I’m a snivelling coward
Cooper: I can pass for a boy in good light
Darling: I do a wicked impersonation of a badger
Ainsworth: errrrmmmmm, let me get back to you on that one
Burnham: I kill people in hospitals

I’ve got a bridge you might want to buy

If you believe, that is, that the Conservatives are the only party that accepts donations from non-domiciled billionaires, or indeed if you believe that the Conservatives are the largest beneficiary of these donors.

Not that this deters Lord Mandelson from heaving his giant gut aboard the knackered old hobbyhorse for the second time in ten days.

I’m sure Mandelson, in his more reflective moments, must allow himself a quiet chuckle at the irony of using a technique so despised by a man the Left always (wrongly, by the way) claims as one of its own….

To tell deliberate lies while genuinely believing in them, to forget any fact that has become inconvenient, and then when it becomes necessary again, to draw it back from oblivion for just so long as it is needed.

Groper Jack Prescott, did he lie about the ERM?

1 Mar

The best thing you can say about him is, “without a shadow of a doubt”.

The worst is that it’s probably not a good idea to discuss anything more complicated than walking in a straight line with a man who, by his own admission, was “too thick” to be Deputy Prime Minister.

ERM? Erm....erm....

A future fair for all?

24 Feb

The following comment was posted here earlier today….

Try search Google for “Future fair for all”, or hit “I’m Feeling Lucky”.

Oh, and also – if you are feeling generous, please link to the website so that it can maintain its #1 position.

Your wish is my command.
